Bou confirms title with win in Madrid

The Repsol Honda rider clinches his 34th world title overall. Gabriel Marcelli comes close to winning the race and takes second place.

The Madrid Arena witnessed the coronation of Toni Bou as World Champion. The Repsol Honda Trial Team rider won in the Spanish capital, for the fifth victory from 6 events held so far. His teammate, Gabriel Marcelli, put in a great performance, taking second place.

From the first lap, Bou made it clear that he wanted to seal his 34th title before the end of the season. He quickly took the lead, making very few mistakes and with just 1 penalty point. In the second round he came first again, and secured the title before the final even got underway. Competing against his teammate, Marcelli, and Toby Martyn, the Repsol Honda rider managed to recover from a fiasco on Zone 2 and earned the win.

With this result, Bou increases his record with a total of 77 victories in the indoor discipline. The Montesa Cota 4RT rider has participated in 105 events since he began in 2005, and has taken 92 podiums.

Marcelli once again put in a great performance, as he had done in Andorra previously. On the first round, the young Repsol Honda rider was in the Top 3, a position that he maintained in the second round and which took him to the final. On the last 6 zones, he fought hard with Bou and earned second position.

Marcelli further consolidates his third place in the standings with 73 points. The final event of the season will be held on November 11th in Vendée, France.

I'm super happy about tonight. In Madrid, at the home of Repsol, it was important for us to win the title. Furthermore, I won all three rounds and we had a very exciting final, where Gabri made things very difficult for me. Leaving here with a one-two finish is incredible and winning the 34th title is even more so.
Winning a title with a victory is the best thing, although the important thing is always to get the title. We started the final very well in Zone 1, but we made a mistake in Zone 2 and it made life very difficult. The area where the difference was made was Zone 4, because it was very difficult to overcome that obstacle, but I am very happy to have achieved it and to have tied with Gabri. Winning on the last zone was amazing.

Today my riding was very good and I managed to stay with Toni throughout the final, even going ahead in some cases. In the end we finished with another second position, which is a super positive result and I am very happy about it, as we were just two points behind Toni. Everything was decided on the last section, so it was very exciting both for us and for the fans who came out in Madrid to see us. Taking another podium is very positive and it allows me to stay third in the championship, so I am very happy with how the season is going.

The most important thing today is the title achieved by Toni. Getting 34 titles is incredible! Many congratulations to him. Gabri was also impressive, and he was on the verge of winning. Today there were no team orders and until the last obstacle in the last area it was clear that he tried to win. He has shown that he is at that level and that he is going to look to be World Champion in the future, so I am very happy. I want to thank HRC, Honda, Repsol and all the sponsors, because their support is vital for us being here celebrating a new success with this incredible team, to whom I also have to thank for all their effort and hard work. It's a success for everyone, so thank you.
