Difficult race for Chantra in Mugello

it Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello

IDEMITSU Honda LCR rider Somkiat Chantra wrapped up a tough race at the Mugello Circuit.

Difficult race for Chantra in Mugello

・Somkiat Chantra was ready to fight and attempt a comeback from 22nd on the grid.

・Unfortunately, things took a turn due to an incorrect procedure by the team. Just moments before the warm-up lap, Chantra stalled his bike. The team immediately restarted it in an effort to assist him. However, a second engine start on the grid is not permitted under the regulations. The correct procedure would have been to remove the bike and start from the pit lane.

・As a result, Chantra was handed a double long lap penalty. Still, he pushed through and finished the race as best he could, crossing the line in 18th place.

・The whole team apologizes for the incident and is determined to bounce back stronger at the next round in Assen.

Johann Zarco endures difficult weekend in Mugello

CASTROL Honda LCR rider Johann Zarco was unable to finish Sunday's race at the Mugello Circuit.

・After showing improvement during the warm-up and feeling more comfortable on the bike, French rider Johann Zarco was ready to bounce back from 14th on the grid.

・He made a strong start and managed to recover several positions in the early stages of the race. In the laps he completed, Zarco felt good on the bike and confident in his pace, ready to continue fighting to gain more positions.

・However, with 20 laps remaining, while pushing for the top 10, he crashed at Turn 15 after losing the front due to a lack of grip caused by high tyre temperatures.

・The Italian Grand Prix has been a tough round for the CASTROL Honda LCR team. They will now focus on coming back stronger in Assen next weekend.

It was a tough race, and of course, I’m disappointed about what happened on the grid before the start. But we’re a team, and we learn together. I did my best to push despite the penalty and gave everything until the end. Now it’s time to reset, stay focused, and come back stronger in Assen.

I didn’t expect the crash, because I had felt good in that corner all weekend and actually enjoyed riding through it. I lost the front, and I believe it was due to the tyre temperature. It’s a pity, because after yesterday’s outcome I wanted to score some points and end the weekend on a positive note. That said, we had made a step forward, and I was enjoying the laps I completed, feeling strong and overtaking other riders, which was important. In any case, we’ll take the lessons from this weekend and try again in Assen.
