The Honda HRC Castrol team make the move to the UK with Luca Marini and Joan Mir both aiming to improve from their French GP performances.

Seventh outing of the year set for Silverstone

Known for its history and heritage, the British GP sits as one of the gems in the MotoGP World Championship calendar. Shifted to earlier in the year for the 2025 campaign, this year’s trip to Silverstone will likely produce less questions about the English weather and focus more on the succession of different race winners around the 5.9-kilometer-long circuit.

The only rider to score points in every GP so far this year, Luca Marini currently sits 13th in the World Championship standings and just six points from the top ten. Continuing this consistency is a solid base for the #10, but Marini is focused on making the next step with the ever-improving Honda RC213V and battling further into the top ten. The races in Silverstone have traditionally brought a steady flow of points for Marini with seventh in 2023 his best premier class finish at the track.

Joan Mir spent the week between races focusing on recovery after his heavy fall in the opening lap of the French GP. Working closely with his physio, the #36 is ready to remount his Honda and pick up where he left off in France. Mir’s speed is undeniable and the 2020 MotoGP World Champion needs just a little more luck to deliver.

Honda HRC’s efforts will be boosted once again by the Honda HRC Test Team who make their third appearance of the year, the #41 of Aleix Espargaro returning to the controls of the Honda RC213V.

Location: Silverstone Circuit

The Silverstone Circuit is long, fast and flowing, with a lot of fast changes of direction and a mixture of corners: the stadium section from Abbey through the Loop to Aintree is tight and technical, Woodcote and Copse are long and fast, the Maggotts/Becketts complex a bit of both.

It is conveniently situated right in the heart of the UK, approximately 90 minutes north of London and 60 minutes south of Birmingham. Road access is exceptionally easy along the A43 dual carriageway from either the M40 or M1.

By public transport, the nearest stations are Banbury or Milton Keynes, both of which offer fast connections to destinations throughout the country.

The start to the year has been good and now we need to look to make a step and become even more competitive. Everyone involved has been working really well, and you can tell that with amount the Test Team is doing, all of Honda HRC are pushing. It’s been busy between the two races, and I am confident that we can perform well and add more points to our card. This year we go to Silverstone at a different time of the year so we need to see what the weather will do and react accordingly.

We went for some more checks between the races and everything is looking OK. There is some damage in the top of the finger, but I have been able to continue training and preparing more or less as normal. I worked a lot with my physio on the neck, and we have also made progress there. The plan and situation for the weekend doesn’t change, we showed that in Le Mans we have speed and just need a bit of luck and to get back into Q2 to avoid anything in the opening laps. Let’s get to it.
