Changes to 2021 WTCR calendar announced

The WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup has today unveiled changes to its calendar for the 2021 season.

Honda Racing’s customer teams and four drivers will get the campaign under way three weeks later than planned at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit on June 3-5, with the Hungaroring round – originally due to kick off the campaign on May 14-16 – now scheduled for the August 21-22 weekend.

Further changes to the European leg of the calendar include a maiden visit to Adria International Raceway, which has replaced the Slovakiaring due to the consequences of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

Adria will host the fourth race weekend of the season on July 31-August 1. The three rounds before it on the calendar – at the Nürburgring, the Vila Real street circuit, and Motorland Aragon – have all retained their original dates.

To allow the necessary time for the sea transportation of freight following the Hungaroring round, the inaugural race at Inje Speedium in Korea has been moved back by one week.

The venue will still kick off the Asian leg of the 2021 calendar, but will now take place on the October 16-17 weekend. The dates for the final two rounds, in China and Macau respectively, are unchanged.
