Marcelli takes second place in Tallinn

The Repsol Honda Team rider earns a podium, whilst teammate Toni Bou misses out on the final.

This weekend the city of Tallinn in Estonia made its debut as a venue for the X-Trial World Championship, hosting the penultimate round of the season. The Repsol Honda Team riders did not have the best day, despite giving their all. Gabriel Marcelli took his sixth consecutive podium of the season, and Toni Bou finished in fourth position.

The first lap started out very tight, showing that it would not be an easy day. Marcelli placed third, tied with Bou, who was first, and Jaime Busto in second. On the second lap, the Montesa Cota 4RT rider maintained the same pace, and with 6 points he qualified to compete in the final. In the last round, he fought for victory with Jaime Busto, and with just a one-point difference between the riders, he took second place.

It was a difficult day for Bou in Tallinn. The Repsol Honda rider, who had won the title at the previous event in Andorra, started out by leading the first round, scoring only 5 penalty points. For the second, the 18-time indoor champion made a mistake at Zone 3 that he was unable to recover from, which left him out of the final for the first time since Paris in 2018.

With these results, Marcelli remains third in the standings with 83 points, 6 behind Busto. The next round of the X-Trial World Championship -the last of the season- will take place on November 16th in Pamplona.

I felt good on the bike throughout the day, but perhaps I wasn't as sharp as I was in Andorra. We were fighting for the victory until the end and it slipped away by just one point. The positive thing is that with each race I am closer to winning, so we will continue to fight in the same way. We are six points behind Jaime in the standings, so it will be important to give 100% in Pamplona to have a chance of getting the runner-up spot.

We missed out on the final due to a small mistake at Zone 3 on Lap 2. With the simpler trials, any small detail puts you out of contention, and these are things that can happen. We tried to salvage it, but it wasn't possible. We take away the fact that we were lucky enough to win the world title at the previous round in Andorra and we had nothing at stake here. We are looking forward to the last round in Pamplona with a lot of enthusiasm and we will try to improve and not make these mistakes in order to return to the top.

Today we are left with a bittersweet taste in our mouths. Gabri took another podium, which is very positive, as it shows the great level he is at this year. He is now 6 points behind Jaime in the standings, so in Pamplona it will be important to fight for victory there. It has not been a good day for Toni. He made a mistake on the second round that he was unable to recover from. These things happen. Looking ahead to Pamplona, he will try to return to the top and close out a very positive year in the best way possible.
