Marcelli takes first victory in TrialGP World Championship

On Sunday, the TrialGP World Championship held the final day of its visit to Exeter, United States, and Repsol Honda put in a strong performance. Gabriel Marcelli was able to improve on his results to claim his first win on the world stage, whilst Toni Bou moved closer to his 19th outdoor title.

Marcelli showed great form from the first race. The Montesa Cota 4RT rider established a lead from the first zone and, in the closing stages, was battling for victory with Bou. The two were very close, but ultimately Marcelli had to settle for second place, finishing just one point behind his teammate.

However, in the second race, the Repsol Honda rider maintained the high level he had shown during the first. From the opening sections, he led the way consistently, making no significant mistakes. With a total of eight penalty points, he secured victory, earning 20 important points. With the sum of both races, Marcelli was top of the podium for the first time, taking a milestone first win in the TrialGP World Championship.

Bou, meanwhile, started the day in Rhode Island with a win in the first race. After a very intense battle with his teammate, he managed to snatch victory with a one-point advantage, picking up 20 points for the overall standings that put him even closer to the title.

In the second race, Bou was not at his best, and was off the rostrum for much of the contest. Drawing on his experience and composure, he managed to overcome the final sections well, allowing him to finish the day in third place. The result was not enough to confirm the title, and he will have to wait until the final round of the calendar, on September 5-7th in the United Kingdom, to try to do so.

After his results at the sixth round of the 2025 season, Bou is closer than ever to his 38th world title in total, and will only need to score three points in the final round to become champion. Marcelli will face a new challenge beforehand on July 26-27th, with the penultimate round of the Spanish Championship in Pobladura de las Regueras (León).

I'm really happy. I'm on cloud nine. Today went very well, right from the first section. I narrowly missed out on victory in the first race, and in the second, I rode even better. I made a lot of mistakes yesterday, and I knew I could do better today. I want to thank the team for the work they've done, and to Honda and HRC for all their support.

The weekend was very positive. I hadn't been in the best shape physically since Friday, but we were able to score some good points for the overall standings. It was a very tough day in which we struggled, especially in the second race. Despite winning the first race, I ended up finishing second overall, which is a positive result. We have the title very much in our own hands, and we'll work very hard this summer to arrive in the UK in the best possible shape. I also want to congratulate my teammate Gabri, because he's been riding very well in the races and he really deserved this victory.

It was a fantastic day. Gabri was finally able to take his first win in the World Championship. We're very happy for him because he'd been working hard for this result for a long time and he deserved it. I'm sure there will be many more to come from him. On the other hand, it's a shame that Toni couldn't take the title. It was a tough day for him, especially in the second race. We know we have a good chance of winning the title in the UK and we'll work hard during this month off to achieve it. I want to thank Honda USA and HRC for all their support this weekend.
