Nojiri takes pole as Honda drivers lock out the top four
Qualifying for Round 8 of the Japanese SUPER FORMULA Championship (SF) was held at Sportsland SUGO in Miyagi Prefecture on Saturday 8 August.

This knockout qualifying session was run under a three-stage format titled “SUPER POLE QUALIFYING Supported by YOKOHAMA TIRE”. Six drivers from each of the two Q1 groups, 12 in total, advanced to Q2, with the top five then progressing to Q3 to fight for pole position. The polesitter would also receive a ¥1 million prize from title sponsor The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd.
Four Honda/M-TEC drivers reached Q3: Tadasuke Makino and Kakunoshin Ohta of DOCOMO TEAM DANDELION RACING, Tomoki Nojiri of TEAM MUGEN AUTOBACS, and Igor Omura Fraga of PONOS NAKAJIMA RACING. Nojiri set the fastest time to secure pole position and the ¥1 million prize. Ohta, Omura Fraga and Makino followed, giving Honda/M-TEC drivers a lockout of the top four positions on the starting grid.
