Nojiri claims record 23rd pole position
Nojiri extends his own pole record at Fuji

This meeting at Fuji was held on so-called “one-event two-race” format staging two free practice sessions on 18 (Fri), and a set of official qualifying sessions and the race on 19 (Sat) for R6 and another on 20 (Sun) for R7.
The sky was clear on Saturday, and Q1 A-group session started at 9:10 a.m., in the true summer weather with ambient and road surface temperatures each at 28℃ and 38℃. Q1 B-group session sustained a 10-minute delay due to a failure in the signal system at the pit exit just before the session. A total of seven Honda drivers, #16 Nojiri, #6 Kakunoshin Ohta (DOCOMO TEAM DANDELION RACING), #64 Ren Sato (PONOS NAKAJIMA RACING), #15 Iwasa, #65 Igor Omura Fraga (PONOS NAKAJIMA RACING), #5 Tadasuke Makino (DOCOMO TEAM DANDELION RACING) and #50 Syun Koide (San-Ei Gen with B-Max) made way to the Q2 session.
The temperatures of both ambient and road surface went up to 31℃ and 43℃ respectively when the Q2 session was started. #16 Nojiri, who had found a solution for the rear grip problem he encountered in the previous round at Autopolis (R5), marked the fastest time (1’22.417”) and duly captured the pole position, and in doing so extended his own record number of pole positions in the Super Formula series to 23 in total. #15 Iwasa was 5th, on down, #5 Makino 6th, #65 Omura Fraga 8th and #64 Sato 10th.
