Solid Friday for Johann Zarco at the Sachsenring
SachsenringCASTROL Honda LCR rider Johann Zarco has finished 16th on Friday at the Sachsenring.
Frenchman Zarco and the crew have carried out one of the most interesting Fridays of the season so far. After facing a difficult period, the rider managed to be in the top 5 of the classification during practice in the afternoon. He admitted feeling good and enjoying the laps, which gave him a boost of motivation to try and get to Q2. Unluckily, he suffered a crash while trying to secure his spot and couldn't improve the lap time.
IDEMITSU Honda LCR rider Takaaki Nakagami ended up 18th on Friday at the Sachsenring.
Japanese Nakagami and his crew have experienced a busy Friday at the Sachsenring. They’ve been trying different strategies to make a step forward. Unfortunately, a crash in the afternoon (without consequences) prevented them from doing so. Having gathered much helpful information, they are working unceasingly to prepare for Saturday practices and Sprint.
The beginning of the afternoon was great; we could finally smile under the helmet. The positive thing is that I was in the top 5 for many laps during the practice; I stayed there with the fastest guys. Our pace was consistent. However, we made a mistake in the strategy, and then I crashed, so I could not nail the job and get to Q2. We’ve improved today; let’s keep working and see what we can do tomorrow.

As the air temperature is quite low, we are struggling to warm up the tyre, especially the right side, because this circuit is left-handed. We’ve seen many crashes today, and I was one of them; I ended up on the gravel at turn 1. We’d tried different geometries, I didn’t have a good feeling, and I lost the front. We are working hard to see if we can make some progress for tomorrow’s sessions and Sprint.
