Sixth in Spielberg for speedy Furusato
Taiyo Furusato narrowly misses out on podium after starting 15th

The Moto3 race in Austria proved to be another thrilling event, where Taiyo Furusato chased down the leading pack of four, after starting from 15th on the grid, to be in the podium battle in the final laps. Unfortunately, the Japanese rider was pushed wide with only a couple of laps to go, and the Honda Team Asia rider ultimately crossed the line in sixth place.
The Leopard Racing pairing of Adrian Fernandez and David Almansa also worked hard to help close the gap that had opened between the top four riders and the chasing pack. Although both riders had their battles in the race that prevented them from making the progress they wanted, the pair took the chequered flag in ninth and 13th places respectively. However, they both gained a position due to Dennis Foggia’s penalty.
Casey O’Gorman, who is the injury replacement at SIC58 Squadra Corse, had an impressive ride on his Moto3 debut. The Irish rider was battling for points during the race and finished in 18th place ahead of his team-mate. Just behind him the Rivacold Snipers pairing of Riccardo Rossi and Nicola Carraro (who picked up two long lap penalties for exceeding track limits and was only able to serve one of them during the race) were 19th and 20th respectively, with GRYD – MLav Racing’s Eddie O’Shea 21st and Honda Team Asia’s Arbi Aditama 22nd. Stefano Nepa (SIC58 Squadra Corse) had a tough race and finished in 24th place.
Unfortunately, Vicente Perez (GRYD – MLav Racing) had two long lap penalties to serve, and his race came to an early end due to a technical issue.
There will be no rest for the Moto3 riders, as they head straight to Hungary for round 14 of the season, which will be held at the new Balaton Park Circuit (22-24 August).
