Sixth in soaring San Marino heat for Fernandez in Qualifying

The Moto3 riders were greeted with track temperatures nearing 40C in today’s Qualifying session at Misano, which saw five Honda riders in action in Q2.

The quickest of the NSF250RW riders proved to be Leopard Racing’s Adrian Fernandez, who spent much of the session inside the top nine positions. At the end of the session, the Spaniard had posted the sixth fastest time and will start tomorrow’s race from the second row of the grid.

Starting just behind him will be Honda Team Asia’s Taiyo Furusato, who looked like he could potentially challenge for a place on the front two rows, but ultimately was seventh fastest and will head up the third row of the grid.

David Almansa, who took his maiden pole position last time out, had his qualifying come to an early end after a crash with just under eight minutes left on his clock. His time set ahead of that was enough to see him claim 13th place. The SIC58 Squadra Corse duo of Luca Lunetta and Stefano Nepa took the long route to Q2, going through Q1, and will line up on the grid in 14th and 18th places respectively.

Nicola Carraro (Rivacold Snipers Team) narrowly missed out on a Q2 place this morning, ending Q1 in fifth place and will start tomorrow’s race in 19th place. Behind him will be Eddie O’Shea (GRYD – MLav Racing) in 22nd place, Riccardo Rossi (Rivacold Snipers Team) 23rd, Evan Belford (GRYD – MLav Racing) 24th, Arbi Aditama (Honda Team Asia) 25th and Marcos Ruda (Angeluss – MLav Racing) 27th.

Tomorrow’s Moto3 race at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will be run over 20 laps and will get underway at 11am local time.
