Second row in Hungary for Rios

The Moto3 riders were faced with track temperatures in excess of 40C in today’s qualifying sessions, with Q2 proving to be a tricky affair filled with crashes and yellow flags.

Jesus Rios (Rivacold Snipers Team) took the long way to Q2, heading through the opening Q1 session, where he was second fastest. Rios didn’t have the best of starts to the second session with a highside at Turn 17 early on, but he was able to remount and set the fifth fastest lap – securing a place on the second row of the grid.

Honda Team Asia’s Veda Pratama was one of those riders who unfortunately had his fastest lap removed due to the yellow flags for other riders’ crashes. Although he was at the top of the timing screens briefly, he ended the session in ninth place. Joel Kelso (GRYD Racing) and Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) will line up directly behind him for tomorrow’s race in tenth and 11th places respectively, after setting exactly the same lap times as each other.

SIC58 Squadra Corse’s Casey O’Gorman and Leopard Racing’s Guido Pini were two of the other riders that experienced crashes during qualifying. At the end of the 15 minutes O’Gorman was 12th and Pini was 16th.

In Q1 Eddie O’Shea (GRYD Racing) was eighth, while Zen Mitani (Honda Team Asia) was ninth, Nicola Carraro (Rivacold Snipers Team) was 11th and Leo Rammerstorfer (SIC58 Squadra Corse) was 12th.

Tomorrow’s Moto3 race, which will get underway at 11am local time, will be run over 20 laps of the Balaton Park Circuit.
