Second pole position of the year for David Almansa
Two Honda riders on the front row of the grid for Malaysia Moto3 race

Tomorrow’s Moto3 race at Sepang, Malaysia, will see two Honda riders lead the way, with David Almansa on pole position and Taiyo Furusato second on the grid.
The Moto3 riders were faced with far warmer temperatures today at Sepang International Circuit, with track temperatures in excess of 40C. While most riders in the Q2 session chose to attempt their fastest laps in a large group on track, Leopard Racing’s David Almansa and Honda Team Asia’s Taiyo Furusato chose to set their final laps in clean air. This proved to be the best tactic with Almansa securing his second pole position of the year, while Furusato will join him on the front row of the grid in second place.
Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse) kept himself in contention for the front rows early on but had to settle for 10th place, after getting caught in traffic late on in the session. Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) and Eddie O’Shea (GRYD – MLav Racing), who had both also made it directly through to Q2, will start tomorrow’s race from 12th and 16th places on the grid respectively.
It was a quiet start in the earlier Q1 session, with riders opting to wait before making their way out on track. Nicola Carraro (Rivacold Snipers Team) was the highest placed NSF250RW rider at the end of the 15 minutes in fifth, narrowly missing out on a place in Q2. GRYD – MLav Racing’s Marco Morelli was just behind him on the timing screens in sixth place, while Riccardo Rossi (Rivacold Snipers Team) was eighth, Stefano Nepa (SIC58 Squadra Corse) was ninth and Tatchakorn Buasri (Honda Team Asia) was tenth.
Tomorrow’s 15-lap Moto3 race, the final ‘flyaway’ race of the year for the lightweight riders, will get underway at midday local time.

I’m really happy to achieve my second pole position of the year. Thank you to the team for the good work that has been done. I like this circuit a lot so I’m happy and ready to do well tomorrow.
