Pratama scores sensational second place in a dramatic Malaysian Grand Prix

Round 19 of the Moto3 World Championship saw Honda riders Veda Pratama, Joel Kelso (GRYD Racing) and Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) immediately challenge for positions inside the top five as soon as the lights went out under clear blue skies.

Unfortunately, Jesus Rios of the Rivacold Snipers Team crashed on the opening lap after a highside at the exit of Turn 2. The Spaniard was able to continue for a short period before eventually retiring from the race.

Pratama emerged as Honda's leading contender in the battle for second place, fighting hard against the KTM trio of Carpe, Danish and Almansa. The four riders constantly traded positions throughout the race, but in the end, the young Indonesian kept his composure and executed his race brilliantly to win the battle and secure his best finish of the season.

Kelso looked set to finish as the second-highest Honda rider, running just outside the top five. However, with four laps remaining, the Australian crashed out and retired from the race, allowing Adrian Fernandez and the rest of the Honda riders to move up one position. The Spaniard eventually crossed the line in seventh place, just over a tenth of a second behind sixth.

His Leopard Racing teammate Guido Pini enjoyed a positive race, battling for a top-10 finish at various stages before ultimately having to settle for 12th place. He finished just ahead of Honda Team Asia's Zen Mitani, who gained six positions from his starting spot over the course of the 15-lap race.

Casey O'Gorman finished as the leading SIC58 Squadra Corse rider, narrowly missing out on the points in 16th place. He finished ahead of the remaining Rivacold Snipers Team rider, Kiattisak Singhapong, and teammate Leo Rammerstorfer.

The 20th round of the 2026 Moto3 World Championship will see the Honda riders return to the Losail International Circuit for the Qatar Grand Prix next weekend, from 6-8 November.

"I am super happy to get on the podium here in Sepang, especially with my family here. It's more than amazing to stand on the podium in front of my parents, sister and cousins, and I am really happy after Phillip Island as well, where I secured pole position. I have to say a big thank you to the team. They did a great job this weekend, and thanks also to my family, friends and everyone who has been cheering me on. The crowd here has been amazing. I'm going to enjoy today, but next week is another race and I'll be fully focused on Qatar."
