Pratama powers through to eighth in complicated Catalan race
Veda Pratama rode from 20th to eighth, while there was heartbreak for Jesus Rios who crashed out of podium contention

The Moto3 race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya proved to be an extremely exciting one, categorised by constant position changes at the front and several recovery rides.
One of those to come through the field was Honda Team Asia’s Veda Pratama who lined up on the grid in 20th place. The Indonesian rider was quick to begin making his way past other riders, climbing to 13th before the end of the opening lap. From there he continued making progress in chasing down the lead group and eventually crossed the line eighth place.
Just behind him was Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) who had been battling for the lead for most of the race. Unfortunately, tyre wear issues in the closing stages saw him drop back to finish ninth. Casey O’Gorman (SIC58 Squadra Corse) was another one who made his way through the field, after a grid penalty for slow riding in Qualifying saw him start the race from 24th. O’Gorman successfully made his way through the field to take the chequered flag inside the top ten, with Eddie O’Shea (GRYD – MLav Racing) just behind in 11th.
Finishing outside the points were Joel Kelso (GRYD – MLav Racing), Guido Pini (Leopard Racing) who had to serve two long lap penalties, Zen Mitani (Honda Team Asia) and Leo Rammerstorfer (SIC58 Squadra Corse) in 18th, 21st, 22nd, and 23rd places respectively.
There was heartbreak for Jesus Rios (Rivacold Snipers Team) who had been one of the fastest riders throughout the race, as he crashed out of podium contention with two laps to go. Team-mate Nicola Carraro also had a Turn 10 incident, his coming on Lap 5, which saw him out of the race.
The Moto3 riders will now enjoy a week of no racing, before two back-to-back events get underway with the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello at the end of this month.
