Taiyo Furusato crashes out of podium contention on the final lap

Potential unrealised for Honda’s Moto3 riders in Germany

Despite some strong performances from Honda’s Moto3 riders during today’s 23-lap race, it was ultimately a frustrating end to the weekend with little reward for the hard work put in.

Despite a disappointing result in qualifying, Honda Team Asia’s Taiyo Furusato was hoping to make it back-to-back podium finishes at the Sachsenring, after finishing the 2024 race in second place. The Japanese rider quickly made his way through the field from 17th on the grid to place himself in podium contention. Going into the last lap it looked like Furusato had done enough to claim the final place on the rostrum, but a Turn 12 crash prevented him from making this achievement.

Stefano Nepa (SIC58 Squadra Corse) and Riccardo Rossi (Rivacold Snipers Team) were both able to gradually make their way through the field and avoid those crashing in front to cross the line in 13th and 14th places respectively. In his debut Moto3 race, SIC58 Squadra Corse’s Lenoxx Phommara was able to make the most of the time to find his feeling with the NSF250RW and finished the weekend in 17th place. It was a tougher race for Nicola Carraro (Rivacold Snipers Team) who had to serve a long lap penalty, before crashing at Turn 1 on Lap 6. Carraro was able to rejoin the race and finished in 18th.

Unfortunately, there were also crashes for the Leopard Racing duo of David Almansa and Adrian Fernandez, as well as Tatchakorn Buasri (Honda Team Asia) and Eddie O’Shea (GRYD – MLav Racing).

There will be no rest for the Moto3 riders, as they head straight to Czechia for round 12 of the season (18 – 20 July).
