GRYD’s Joel Kelso set the pace early on in Q1, working to ensure that he was inside the top-four places at the end of the 15 minutes. After topping the times early on, Kelso ended the session in second place. Although Jesus Rios (Rivacold Snipers Team) was inside the promotion places for much of the session, he could not beat the pace of his rivals and was seventh.

Further back on the timing screens Guido Pini (Leopard Racing) was eighth, with Kiattisak Singhapong (making his Moto3 debut with Honda Team Asia) ninth and Leo Rammerstorfer (SIC58 Squadra Corse) 11^th. Rivacold Snipers Team’s Nicola Carraro’s qualifying was hampered by a Turn 7 crash on his opening lap and he ended the session in 12^th place.

With Silverstone providing one of the calendar’s longest circuits, it took until the second half of Q2 to start to see times on the board for most riders. Veda Pratama (Honda Team Asia), Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) and Kelso were all in the fight for the front row during the second qualifying session of the day. Ultimately though Fernandez had to settle for a place on the second row of the grid, after setting the sixth fastest lap.

Coming through Q1, Kelso made the most of his knowledge of the conditions and was sitting in second place with just over one minute to go. Unfortunately, he was unable to further improve this time enough and ended the day in tenth place. Meanwhile, Eddie O’Shea (GRYD Racing), Pratama and Casey O’Gorman (SIC58 Squadra Corse) were 15^th, 16^th and 18^th respectively.

Tomorrow’s 15-lap race will take place later than usual, running after the MotoGP race, with lights out for the Moto3 riders at 2.30pm local time.
