Lunetta secures podium in red-flagged Indonesian Moto3

In a race that was red flagged with two laps to go, SIC58 Squadra Corse’s Luca Lunetta was rewarded for the hard work he’s gone through recovering from a broken leg with a podium finish. The Italian rider made his way through the field after a slow start and scooped up second place, once post-race penalties had been applied to two other riders.

One of these riders was Leopard Racing’s Adrian Fernandez, who was deemed to be the cause of the crash that brought out the red flag. Fernandez had enjoyed an extremely strong race until this point, fighting for the lead throughout. He crossed the line in first place but was demoted to sixth.

Stefano Nepa (SIC58 Squadra Corse) also enjoyed a good race, keeping himself a part of the main group of riders on the road and ultimately crossing the line in ninth place. The GRYD – MLav Racing duo of Marco Morelli and Eddie O’Shea both finished inside the points in 14th and 15th places respectively.

Unfortunately, Riccardo Rossi’s race was compromised from the start, after the Rivacold Snipers Team rider was handed a double long lap penalty for a jump start. He ended the race in 18th place with Honda Team Asia’s Arbi Aditama one place behind in 19th.

There was disappointment for David Almansa (Leopard Racing) and Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia), who were both battling for a place on the podium. A Turn 16 crash on Lap 14 for the pair ended their races early. Zen Mitani (Rivacold Snipers Team) didn’t have the debut he would have liked, with a long lap penalty for taking a shortcut, before his race ended with a Lap 11 crash.

The Moto3 paddock will enjoy a short break, before action resumes with the double header of Australia (17-19 October) and Malaysia (24-26 October).

I’m super, super happy. Honestly, the last months have been very hard, and my injury has been complicated. It was a really scary crash earlier this season. But with good people around me I have been able to come back. I have to thank my family, my girlfriend, everyone. It was a crazy race today and I did everything I could, although I’m not 100%, but I gave everything. I’m really happy.
