Honda’s Moto3 riders battle hard in Australia
Fernandez, Lunetta, Furusato and Almansa all inside the top-ten at Phillip Island

It was an action packed Moto3 race at Phillip Island today, which saw Honda riders in the thick of the podium fight throughout the 21-lap race. Although there was ultimately no top-three finish for them, there were four NSF250RW riders inside the top-ten places at the chequered flag.
Leopard Racing’s Adrian Fernandez spent much of the race battling at the front of a chasing group of ten riders, all of whom were in contention for the final podium place after two riders managed to breakaway early in the race. He was also joined by Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) and Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse). Positions were traded frequently throughout but at the chequered flag Fernandez was sixth, Lunetta seventh and Furusato eighth.
It was a standout performance for David Almansa, who started the race from 18th on the grid and dropped outside of the top-20 places early on after serving his long lap penalty. The Leopard Racing rider was quick to recover and at the halfway point had joined the back of the gaggle of riders fighting for the podium. He eventually crossed the finish line in ninth place.
Further back, Nicola Carraro (Rivacold Snipers Team) and Stefano Nepa (SIC58 Squadra Corse) both scored points, finishing in 13th and 15th places respectively. The GRYD – MLav Racing duo of Eddie O’Shea and Marco Morelli both showed potential for good results, with Morelli in the podium group early on. Unfortunately, both lost positions late on and the race ended with O’Shea 16th and Morelli 18th. Honda Team Asia’s Tatchakorn Buasri was 24th on his return to racing, while Rivacold Snipers Team’s Riccardo Rossi, who had to serve a long lap penalty, was 25th.
The Moto3 riders will now head to straight to Malaysia for the final ‘flyaway’ round of the year, which will be held on 24-26 October, before the final two rounds of the season take place in November.
