Front row start for Almansa at Brno

Although David Almansa ended today’s Q2 session in fourth place, the Leopard Racing rider will start tomorrow’s race at the newly resurfaced Automotodrom Brno from the front row of the grid, due to a penalty for David Muñoz that sees Almansa gain one place.

Team-mate Adrian Fernandez had looked strong during the first half of Q2, setting times that kept in contention to fight for the front row. Unfortunately, at the end of the session he found himself in eighth place. Meanwhile, Nicola Carraro (Rivacold Snipers Team) had also made it straight through to the second qualifying session and posted the 13th fastest time.

Unfortunately, there was disappointment for the other Honda NSF250RW riders, who were unable to progress from Q1 to Q2. SIC58 Squadra Corse’s Stefano Nepa came close, but was 0.067 seconds shy of the top-four places. Honda Team Asia’s Taiyo Furusato also looked set to be in with a chance of making it through to Q2, but a Turn 10 crash with just over two minutes left on the clock prevented him from improving upon his sixth place.

The rest of the Honda riders followed behind on the timing screens with Riccardo Rossi (Rivacold Snipers Team) in 7th, the GRYD – MLav Racing pair of Eddie O’Shea and Leonardo Abruzzo in eighth and ninth respectively, and Lenoxx Phommara (SIC58 Squadra Corse) in 10th. All riders will gain one place on the grid tomorrow, due to David Muñoz’s penalty.

Tomorrow’s 16-lap Moto3 race will get underway at the usual time of 11am local time.
