Fernandez fights for fourth at Silverstone

The first race back following the mid-season summer break saw the Moto3 riders met by an unusually hot and dry Silverstone circuit, where four Honda riders finished within the top-ten.

Leopard Racing’s Adrian Fernandez made good progress from sixth place on the grid, to be within the podium fight from the opening lap. The Spaniard kept himself in contention throughout the duration of the 15-lap race, briefly leading the field at times. Although Fernandez looked set to claim a place on the podium, a small mistake on the final lap meant that he took the chequered flag in fourth place.

It was a strong race also for Joel Kelso (GRYD Racing), who was part of the chasing group attempting to close the gap to the leaders. Kelso eventually crossed the line in sixth place, with team-mate and home-hero Eddie O’Shea in eighth place and Veda Pratama (Honda Team Asia) in ninth, making it four Honda riders inside the top-ten.

There were also points to be had for Jesus Rios (Rivacold Snipers Team), the long-lap serving Casey O’Gorman (SIC58 Squadra Corse), and Guido Pini (Leopard Racing) who ended the race in 11th, 12th and 13th places respectively. Kiattisak Singhapong, who made his Moto3 race debut today deputising for the injured Zen Mitani at Honda Team Asia, also managed to score points by finishing in 15th.

Further back Leo Rammerstorfer (SIC58 Squadra Corse) had a quiet race and went on to finish 17th, while a Turn 12 crash with 2 laps to go meant that Nicola Carraro leaves Silverstone with a DNF.

There will be a slightly longer break again now for the Moto3 riders, with action resuming in Aragon at the end of the month (28-30 August).
