Almansa best placed Honda in French Moto3 race

In a race that started in drying conditions, due to earlier rainfall at Le Mans, Leopard Racing’s David Almansa was the highest placed of the Honda NSF250RW riders – ending the Moto3 race in fifth place.

Almansa spent much of the race battling to make his way through the field, after starting from ninth position on the grid, but ultimately was unable to keep pace with the leading four riders. Successfully defending from those riders behind, demonstrating good pace late on, at the end of the 20 laps he crossed the finish line in fifth place.

Honda Team Asia’s Taiyo Furusato’s race was also punctuated with recovery rides through the field, as a couple of mistakes left the Japanese rider with work to do during the race. Furusato kept pushing until the end and was rewarded with sixth place.

Leopard Racing’s Adrian Fernandez and SIC58 Squadra Corse’s Luca Lunetta also found themselves caught in the intense pack battle and were unable to make progress, ultimately crossing the line in eighth and ninth places respectively. Nicola Carraro (Rivacold Snipers Team) was able to pick up the final point on offer, finishing the race in 15th place.

It was a tough race for team-mate Riccardo Rossi, who had to serve a long lap penalty and ultimately finished in 18th place, with Tatchakorn Buasri (Honda Team Asia) one place behind in 19th.

Unfortunately, Stefano Nepa (SIC58 Squadra Corse) was a retirement at the end of Lap 8, while the GRYD – MLav Racing duo of Adrian Cruces and Eddie O’Shea had crashes at Turn 6 on Lap 9 and Turn 8 on Lap 7 respectively.

The next race for Honda’s Moto3 riders will take place on 23-25 May, which will take place at Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom.
