Moto2 Race Cancelled Due Weather Conditions, Idemitsu Honda Team Asia Looks Ahead to Sepang
The team will now turn its attention to the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang in just seven days. The upcoming round will be particularly motivating for Furusato, who claimed victory in last year's Moto3 race at the circuit. Both riders will aim to carry their positive feeling from Phillip Island into the next round and fight for important results on Malaysian soil.
IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia leaves Phillip Island disappointed after the 2026 Australian Grand Prix Moto2 race was cancelled due to poor visibility affecting the operation of the medical helicopter. With safety remaining the priority, neither Taiyo Furusato nor Mario Suryo Aji had the opportunity to compete in the final Moto2 race at the iconic Australian circuit.
Starting from P11, Furusato was ready to fight for a strong result, while Aji was set to line up from P12. Both riders had shown competitive pace throughout the weekend in both dry and wet conditions, raising hopes of a positive race-day outcome. Unfortunately, the weather prevented them from putting that performance to the test.

Unfortunately, today's race was cancelled because of the medical helicopter issue caused by the weather conditions. Both our riders had shown promising pace throughout the weekend, in both dry and wet conditions, so we were expecting to fight for a good result. Of course, it is disappointing that we couldn't race, but we respect the decision, as safety must always come first.
Now we have to refocus on the next round in Malaysia. We are returning to Asia, which feels like home for us, and we want to carry this positive momentum into Sepang and work towards a strong result. Phillip Island is an amazing circuit, with a fantastic atmosphere and incredible spectators. It is a pity that we couldn't race here one last time, but we will always keep the great memories we have made at this track. Hopefully, one day we will have the chance to come back.

It is a shame that we couldn't race today and show what we were capable of, but safety has to come first, and we respect the decision. We had a competitive weekend overall, and both the Moto2 and Moto3 sides of the team had reasons to feel positive, so naturally we are disappointed not to have the opportunity to race.
I would like to apologize to all the family members and friends who were waiting to watch us compete today. We have to accept the situation and move forward. The important thing is that we finished the weekend with good confidence, and we can take that into Malaysia. We will keep working, come back stronger at Sepang, and thank you to everyone who continues to support us.

It is a real pity that we couldn't race today. We were ready to fight for an important result, and after the work we did throughout the weekend, I was looking forward to seeing what we could achieve. However, we have to respect the decision because safety is always the most important thing.
Now we need to look ahead to Malaysia. Sepang is a circuit I really like, and I have good memories there from winning the Moto3 race last year. That gives me extra motivation for next weekend. We will take the positives from Phillip Island, keep working with the team, and do our best to fight for a strong result in Malaysia.
