IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia riders Mario Suryo Aji and Taiyo Furusato completed a mixed qualifying day at the Spanish Grand Prix in Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto, where changing conditions played a key role in the final outcome.

The day started under wet conditions during the final Free Practice session, where Aji showed strong performance to finish P2, confirming his competitiveness in the rain. Furusato also made a positive step forward, finishing P12 and continuing his steady adaptation to the Moto2 class.

However, as the track dried for qualifying, the scenario changed. In Q1, Furusato finished P10 and will start the race in P24, from the eighth row of the grid, while Aji, who had secured direct access to Q2 on Friday, could not maximize his potential and ended the session in P17. Despite the results, both riders showed promising signs during the weekend and will now focus on race day, aiming to recover positions and fight for stronger results.

The morning session was in wet conditions and both riders did a good job. Mario was very competitive and showed strong confidence in the rain, finishing P2, while Taiyo also performed well and made a step forward. It was a positive start to the day.
In qualifying, the conditions changed to dry and it became more difficult. Mario felt fast but couldn’t translate that feeling into lap time and made a small mistake under pressure. Taiyo continues to learn and understand the Moto2 bike step by step. We are still missing some details, but there is potential. Tomorrow will be important to see how both riders can fight and recover positions in the race.

The feeling in qualifying was a bit different compared to yesterday. I felt fast, but I changed my riding approach slightly, especially when entering the corners, and it didn’t work as expected. For the race, I think the key is to go back to the feeling I had before and trust it.
We didn’t get the result we wanted today, but there are still many positives from the weekend. Now it’s time to reset, understand what happened, and focus on tomorrow. I’m confident about the race pace and I just want to fight, enjoy the race and bring the best possible result.

Today was another important step in my learning process. The conditions in the morning helped me understand more about the bike in the wet, and I felt more confident compared to previous sessions. That’s something positive to take into the next races.
In qualifying I tried to push, but I still need to improve my pace in dry conditions. We know where we are losing time, so now the focus is clear. Tomorrow I will give my maximum, try to stay consistent and keep learning while aiming to move forward during the race.
