IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia slightly improves during qualifying day in Barcelona
IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia riders Mario Suryo Aji and Yuki Kunii just finished the qualifying day corresponding to the 15th round of the 2025 Moto2 World Championship, held at the always iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. This Grand Prix marks the return of Mario Aji to the competition – and he did it in style.

Today the number 64 made a huge step during the last practice session where he finished inside the top 10, earning a valuable result and showing that he’s ready to perform well despite three months away from the track. During qualifying, he continued his good momentum, but heavy traffic during his final time attack prevented him from reaching the desired lap. He finished 8th in Q1 and will ultimately start 21st on the grid – still a step forward compared with yesterday.
Yuki Kunii also made light progress. After ending yesterday in 29th place, he improved his lap time in both free practice 2 and qualifying 1. He will start tomorrow’s race from 24th position. There is still big room for improvement, but both riders are fully focused on delivering a proper race, keeping their pace, and trying to bring home the best possible result from Barcelona.

After today’s qualifying session it has been another tough day for us. The morning was quite cold, so we focused on a long run test. Tire durability will be a very important key for tomorrow’s race.In qualifying, both riders improved their lap times. Mario was very close to reaching Q2, which is a positive sign after three months of recovery. He rode quite well today. Yuki, unfortunately, made some small mistakes during his laps and couldn’t achieve his best possible time, but his potential is higher. We hope that tomorrow both riders can catch up and improve their positions in the race.

I’m happy with the improvement today. It’s a shame we just missed the chance to go into Q2, but I cannot be unhappy. It’s my first weekend back after three months and we are already there. Looking at the lap times, I can see that I’m able to fight in the group, so that’s positive. For me, the target is to absorb as much information as possible, regain the feeling and keep improving session by session – and we did that, which is very important. I’m happy on the bike, the team is happy with the progression, so that’s what really matters.I’m ready for the race. The key will be to stay positive, enjoy it, and learn as much as possible over the race distance. Step by step, the results will come. Thanks a lot to the team for their hard work.

Today in qualifying we missed a bit in the last attack, so I couldn’t achieve the lap time I wanted. Anyway, the feeling with the bike is getting better and also the pace is improving, which is important for tomorrow. For the race, my focus will be on consistency over the full distance. I need to stay calm, manage the bike well, and give my best every lap. In Moto2 anything can happen, so I will keep fighting until the very end. My goal is to stay close to the group in front, take advantage of any opportunity, and keep reducing the gap step by step. I feel motivated and confident that I can do better tomorrow.
