Progress in the Struggle: Kunii Gears Up for Silverstone Comeback
IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia has completed the qualifying day for Round 7 of the Moto2 World Championship at the Silverstone Circuit. Following Mario Aji’s unfortunate shoulder dislocation on Friday, all eyes were on Yuki Kunii as the sole representative of the team.

The Japanese rider gave his best effort in tough and mixed conditions but was unable to advance beyond Q1. A combination of changing weather and low grip made it difficult for Kunii to find a strong rhythm on the long and demanding British circuit.
Now, the focus shifts to analyzing the key areas for improvement and refining the setup to be more competitive in Sunday’s race. Kunii will start from the 8th row in 23rd position, and while the task ahead is tough, the team is hopeful he can rise to the challenge and fight for points.

Today, we went through qualifying with only Yuki Kunii representing our team. He showed some improvement compared to yesterday, and we saw progress in several areas. However, the gap to the front is still quite significant, and our overall position hasn’t changed much.
There’s clearly room to grow, and we need to keep working hard. The key now is to help Yuki build more confidence and improve his feeling on the bike. We’ll support him fully and do everything we can to take a step forward in tomorrow’s race.

Qualifying today was quite difficult. The conditions in the morning were tricky—the track was still a bit damp and colder than yesterday, and it was definitely windier, which affected the bike’s stability and my confidence.
On the positive side, I felt a bit better on the bike than yesterday, so that’s encouraging. We’re not where we want to be yet, but step by step we’re improving. For tomorrow, the goal is to stay with the group as long as possible and fight for every position. I’ll go into the race with a strong mindset and do my best.
