IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia riders Mario Suryo Aji and Yuki Kunii have completed Qualifying Day for Round 3 of the 2025 Moto2 World Championship at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. After a weekend marked by changing weather conditions, today’s qualifying session took place under clear skies, with higher track temperatures making a noticeable difference for the riders.

Aji to Start from 4th Row as Kunii Lines Up 17th in Austin

Aji delivered a solid performance, securing 12th place on the fourth row of the grid, positioning himself well for a top-10 battle in tomorrow’s race. Meanwhile, Kunii qualified 17th, just outside the points zone, setting up an opportunity to fight for a strong finish tomorrow on American soil.

Today’s qualifying was held in fully dry conditions for the first time this weekend. The morning session wasn’t completely dry, so it was difficult to predict how things would unfold in qualifying.
Mario secured 12th place with a strong lap time, and Yuki will start from 17th. Looking ahead to tomorrow, I believe Mario has the potential to fight for a top-10 finish, while Yuki can aim to score points. Both riders, however, need to focus on closing the gap to the leaders.
With only 16 laps in the race, there won’t be much time to recover positions, so a strong start will be essential. Let’s see how things develop tomorrow.

Today was a positive result, and I don’t take it for granted. The morning session was tricky, and honestly, my feeling on the bike wasn’t great at first. I faced some challenges, but after analyzing the data and discussing with the team, we identified key areas for improvement.
In qualifying, we executed our strategy well. The bike felt great, and while there are still things to refine, I’m satisfied with the progress. That being said, I’m never fully satisfied—I always want to push for more.
The main goal for tomorrow is to learn, enjoy every lap, and stay with the front group. I have confidence in the bike and in the spirit of the team, which gives me extra motivation for the race. Ending the day in 12th place after the struggles in the morning is a big positive.
I really appreciate the hard work from my team—without them, this wouldn’t be possible. There’s no pressure, I just want to give my best, and the results will come naturally. Now, it’s all about managing my mindset and preparing for a strong race tomorrow. A big thank you to my team for all their effort—I truly appreciate it.

Looking back at today, we started with a solid approach. Honestly, since yesterday, I’ve felt okay, but I was a bit worried about the dry conditions. In the last race, I struggled in the dry, and I was concerned about facing similar challenges here.
I feel like I’ve improved slightly, but not as much as I would have liked. I still found it difficult to manage the bike on track. However, qualifying 17th is my best result so far this season, and I’m proud of that. Being closer to the top riders is a big step forward.
Tomorrow’s race will be tough, but I will give my best effort. My goal is to continue learning, improving my bike management, and gaining race experience. I’ll stay focused and work on taking the next step forward.
