The IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia riders faced a challenging Saturday at MotorLand Aragón during the Aragón Grand Prix Qualifying Day.

Tough Saturday for Chantra and Aji in Aragón

Thai rider Somkiat Chantra, who showed promise rhythm in previous practice sessions, was unable to replicate that form during Qualifying, ultimately securing P14 on the grid. Meanwhile, Indonesian rookie Mario Aji also struggled in Qualifying, ending the day in 21st place for tomorrow’s race.

We have just completed the Moto2 Qualifying session. The rain from yesterday affected the track conditions, exacerbating the lack of grip compared to previous sessions. Somkiat Chantra managed to secure 14th position, while Mario Aji will start tomorrow’s race from 21st.
Mario was very close to advancing from Q1 to Q2, missing out by just a bit. He performed well and is on an upward trajectory, which will hopefully yield rewards in tomorrow’s race. Somkiat struggled at the beginning of the first sector and made an error in the chicane during his best lap attempt, preventing him from achieving his optimal time.
Although Chantra won’t start from an ideal position, the positive takeaway is that he has the pace to catch up with the riders ahead. We hope for a strong start tomorrow and that he can position himself in the thick of the battle for important points. Let’s see how things going tomorrow.

Today we had our final practice session and Qualifying here in Aragón. In the morning, the track was wet, and I had only one lap to test the race setup. During the afternoon’s Qualifying session, we tried to push for a competitive time in Q2, but the track conditions were still not optimal due to yesterday’s rain.
I’m hopeful that the track will be in better condition tomorrow, allowing me to find my rhythm from the start. I’ll give everything I have to deliver the best possible result for the team.

Today was tricky. The morning session saw the track in less-than-ideal condition with some wet patches, but I felt good on the wet tires. When others switched to slicks, I opted to stay on the wets to reduce risk, and it paid off as I ended up fastest with those tires.
In Qualifying, we saw many crashes in Moto3, making everyone cautious. In Q1, lap times were over a second slower than yesterday. While it wasn’t a bad session, and we’re getting closer to Q2, it wasn’t quite enough. The team is satisfied, as we’re not far off from the riders ahead. We’ll make some adjustments to ensure the bike is perfectly set up for tomorrow and aim for a strong result here in Aragón.
