Superb podium finish for Chantra in Buriram

Somkiat is the first Thai rider to make it onto the podium at his home Grand Prix after his third-place finish today. Ogura also had a fantastic race, making a remarkable comeback from 19th on the grid to fifth.

It was a fascinating 22-lap race that we felt for so long! Somkiat has been riding in the third position for many laps, riding alone, but the lap time differences were so slight. He managed well that difference to finish on the podium in his home race. Also, Ogura did a great race, starting from P19 to finish fifth. I can say we lived a great day today here in Buriram. Of course, we could be better, but two podiums in two categories are fantastic. I want to thank the team and the sponsor; we want to continue growing up on the next races.

What a fantastic day and an amazing race! Before the start, I was excited a little bit under pressure. On the sighting lap, I did everything to be calm, even shouting to relieve myself of the pressure. When the race started, I was fully concentrated. I tried to follow Aldeguer and Acosta, but today, they were so fast. Seeing that it wasn’t possible to catch them, I tried to do my pace. To be on the podium in my home race, in front of the fans, it’s unbelievable. This result relieves me from the disappointment of last year.

I have a mixed feeling. I’m happy about today’s race, mainly considering what happened on Saturday. It was a nice comeback, but the top two guys were on another level. We must be on the same level as them. We must keep working, checking what is possible to do.
