Both teams to race in Honda’s iconic tricolor livery at the Japanese Grand Prix

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) will change the names of its teams competing in the Moto2 and Moto3 classes of the FIM* Road Racing World Championship from the 2027 season. “IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia,” which competes in Moto2, will be renamed “Honda HRC Asia IDEMITSU,” while the Moto3 team “Honda Team Asia” will be renamed “Honda HRC Asia.”
In addition, at the races of the 2026 FIM Road Racing World Championship Japanese Grand Prix, both teams’ machines will compete in special tricolor liveries symbolizing Honda’s racing activities.
“IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia” began competing in the Moto2 class in 2013 with the aim of identifying and developing Asian riders capable of competing at the highest level, while helping to foster motorsports culture across Asia. In 2016, “Honda Team Asia” began competing in the Moto3 class as a new development platform for young riders seeking to progress to Moto2.
The teams have also strengthened their links with the “Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup,” now the “Idemitsu Moto4 Asia Cup,” an entry point for young riders in Asia. Through these initiatives, HRC has worked to establish a development environment that enables riders to progress step by step from an early age to the World Championship.
From the 2027 season, HRC will position these development activities more clearly as part of its own programs and further strengthen the pathway from Moto4 through Moto3 and Moto2 to MotoGP. As part of this initiative, the Moto2 team will be renamed “Honda HRC Asia IDEMITSU,” and the Moto3 team will be renamed “Honda HRC Asia,” further enhancing recognition of the HRC brand in global motorsports.
At this year’s Japanese Grand Prix, symbolizing this new direction, both teams’ machines will feature the same tricolor design used by Honda HRC in the MotoGP class.
Honda’s tricolor has been carried forward as a symbol of its racing activities throughout the company’s continuing challenge in races around the world. It embodies Honda’s racing spirit in striving for the highest level of competition, as well as its commitment to passing that spirit on to the next generation.
By competing at the Japanese Grand Prix in the same tricolor as Honda HRC, young riders from Asia who aspire to race on the world stage will express Honda and HRC’s commitment to carrying forward the racing spirit they have cultivated over many years.
Even after the team name changes, identifying and developing Asian riders will remain an important pillar of HRC’s rider development activities. HRC will continue to strengthen its development initiatives originating in Asia, while further clarifying its “Road to MotoGP” pathway from Moto4 through Moto3 and Moto2 to MotoGP, and will continue developing the next generation of riders who aspire to compete on the world stage.
