Double podium joy for Nakarin in Malaysia
A double podium for Nakarin in Malaysia means the ARRC championship will be all to play for at the final round of the season
The final day of racing at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia, started with wet weather for the morning's warm-up session, which hurt the Honda Asia-Dream Racing with Astemo riders because their plan was to try some setup changes ahead of the afternoon's race.
By the time the second race of the weekend got underway, track conditions had dried, leaving the riders to take any setup changes straight into the race. The three riders made good starts, but only Nakarin Atiratphuvapat was able to keep fighting in the front group, crossing the line in second for his second podium of the weekend. Andi Farid Izdihar and Zaqhwan bin Zaidi fought hard in their group to finish fifth and sixth.
With only one round of the 2024 ARRC season remaining, Andi is second in the riders standings by just two points, and HADR currently lead the Team standings.
Nakarin Atiratphuvapat #41 – Race2 : P2
"In race 2 I changed a bit the settings on the bike and felt better than yesterday. In the race, I needed to win but today Yuki Kunii was very fast. He did a best lap of 2m06, but I could also do that and could follow him just one second behind. But on the last lap I had a problem with the shifter and struggled to change gear, but it was still ok for second. My target is winning the race, so we will be working hard for Buriram because the championship is very close at the top, and I have a chance to do it."
Andi Farid Izdihar #23 –Race2 : P5
"It was not an easy round five for me. I was struggling with the bike and the electronics were not working the way I wanted, but my team side gave the best they can. So, we will evaluate to be ready for the final battle in Buriram. Now I just want to focus on myself, my physical condition and mentality to be ready for the Buriram Race for the title!"
Zaqhwan Zaidi #21 –Race2 : P6
"The result of race two I was not so happy with because I should be able to go fast but I feel strange with my bike and it was difficult to turn, and some things felt not right like I feel I had too much traction control. Anyway, we have one more round in Buriram and we have testing before the last round. I want to make big change to improve myself and the bike. Hopefully, I will become more stronger in last round."
Makoto Tamada - HADR Team Manager
"There was a setting we wanted to try in the warmup session before race two, but unfortunately the conditions were wet. All three riders performed at their best in the wet conditions, but race two started in dry conditions. Nakarin made great improvements and kept up with the top riders until the end, ultimately taking second place. Andi checked the track temperature and choose soft tyres, and although his race wasn't bad, he was fighting with his rival for fourth place and ended up in fifth place, so he is two points behind in the championship heading into the final race. Zaqhwan is also improving, but he still has some issues to work on. This year's final race is next. We will do our best to make sure we win the series championship in the final race. Thank you very much."
