Koji Watanabe, Honda’s Chief Officer for Corporate Communication Supervisory Unit and Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) President, attended the ceremony to encourage the eight new HRS - Formula school students.

Suzuka Circuit Racing School, providing curriculums for moto, kart and formula, was renamed Honda Racing School Suzuka (HRS) this year. The academy aims to strengthen its curriculum for its scholarship students, including categories beyond their current development.

On April 5, Honda Racing President Koji Watanabe addressed the eight HRS - Formula students, ranging from 15 to 21 in age, at the Suzuka Circuit.

Watanabe explained that the name change was evidence of “Honda’s will to become even more involved in nurturing riders and drivers aiming to compete in the world’s top categories, at every stage from schooling to racing.”

“As your school principal Takuma Sato, vice principal Shinji Nakano and previous graduates such as Yuki Tsunoda all compete at the world’s top level of formula racing, we hope that as many of you as possible will become top class professional racing drivers and bring excitement to racing fans all over the world,” he encouraged the students.

Once the opening ceremony concluded, the students drove on the track to kick off their curriculum under the watchful eye of HRC President Watanabe.
