A Difficult Aragón Weekend Ends with Work Ahead for Aji & Furusato
MotorLand AragónIdemitsu Honda Team Asia finished a disappointing race day at MotorLand Aragón, with Taiyo Furusato finishing P19 and Mario Suryo Aji P24 in the 13th round of the 2026 Moto2 World Championship.
Both riders faced a difficult challenge from the beginning, with Furusato lining up from P18 and Aji from P26. Despite making some progress during the opening stages, neither rider was able to maintain the pace required to move consistently towards the points-paying positions.
Furusato made a positive start and initially gained some ground, but as the race progressed he struggled to maintain his pace and eventually found himself fighting towards the back of the field. The Japanese rookie crossed the finish line in P19. Aji also faced a difficult race from P26. The Indonesian rider made up two positions by the chequered flag, eventually finishing P24, although the result remained far from the level of performance expected .
It was a frustrating conclusion to the Aragón weekend for Idemitsu Honda Team Asia, with both riders and the team aware that there is work to do before the next round. The focus now turns to analysing the weekend, understanding where performance was lost and finding the necessary improvements ahead of the Misano Grand Prix.
The 14th round of the 2026 Moto2 World Championship will take place at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, where the team will aim to turn the lessons from Aragón into a stronger performance.
Today we had good conditions and nice weather, but it was a difficult race for both riders. Taiyo started from P18 and in the first part of the race he was trying to gain positions and made some progress. But from the middle of the race, he stayed at the back of the group and eventually finished P19. Realistically, we expected him to gain more positions during the race, so this is not the result we were looking for.Mario started from P26 and finished P24. Some positions came from other riders' crashes, so realistically we did not gain as much as we wanted from the race.To be honest, I expected more from both riders. We expected that we could improve and gain positions, but we faced difficulties throughout the weekend and could not find the performance we needed.Now we have to go back and carefully analyse what we did, what was stopping both riders from improving and where we can make changes.
