Difficult mission ahead in Aragon for Furusato & Aji after a dissapointing Qualifying Day
MotorLand AragónIdemitsu Honda Team Asia Moto2 endured a difficult qualifying day at MotorLand Aragón, with Taiyo Furusato set to start tomorrow's 13th round of the 2026 Moto2 World Championship from P18, while Mario Suryo Aji will line up from P26 after being unable to progress through Q1.
Aji faced a challenging Saturday from the outset, finishing P27 in the final practice session as he continued to search for the right pace and setup. The Indonesian rider then completed Q1, where he finished P12, narrowly missing the opportunity to advance to Q2 and ultimately securing P26 on the grid. After a difficult qualifying session, Aji will now focus on resetting mentally and making the most of tomorrow's race.
On the other side of the garage, Furusato arrived at qualifying with a direct Q2 place secured after his strong performance on Friday. The Japanese rookie finished P23 in the morning session while continuing to work on his race setup, before suffering a crash during Q2 that brought his qualifying session to an early end. Fortunately, Furusato was unharmed and will start tomorrow's race from P18. Despite the setback, the rookie continues to build experience in his first Moto2 season, with each challenge becoming another opportunity to learn and progress.
It will be a demanding Sunday for both Idemitsu Honda Team Asia riders, who will need to fight through the field at MotorLand Aragón. The team will now work to repair and prepare the bikes while both riders reset mentally and physically ahead of a long race.
Today’s qualifying sesssion was a tough one. Both riders Furusato and Aji made mistakes during the qualifying session and we didn’t see the improvement that we were expecting. Mario couldn't manage to qualify for Q2 and ended up P26. Taiyo also had a crash in qualifying, but fortunately he is okay, so we can repair the bike and see what they can do on Sunday.
This weekend both riders are not approaching the race weekend as we expected, they need to focus, keep fighting and find the way to get back to the momentum from previous rounds. We are aware of the potential of both riders, and we expect that they can perform a good level.
Team is working really hard in order to get the best and now riders have also to put an extra effort in order to pay off all the hard work. It’s a dissapointing day, but we cannot be negative, we have to be realistic, find the weak points, work hard on them and give our all tomorrow and make the most of the race.
