IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia riders Mario Suryo Aji and Taiyo Furusato completed a demanding and chaotic Moto2 race at the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas, with both riders ultimately leaving Austin without points despite showing fighting spirit throughout the weekend.

The race was heavily disrupted after a major first-lap incident involving multiple riders forced an early red flag and restart. Under those unusual conditions, Mario Aji was once again showing determination and fighting inside the points positions, but while running in P15, the Indonesian rider crashed out and was unable to bring the bike home.

On the other side of the garage, rookie Taiyo Furusato gave everything in another valuable learning race and crossed the line in P18, narrowly missing out on the points after another weekend of gradual adaptation and progress in the Moto2 category.

Although the final result was not the one the team was aiming for, the weekend still offered important lessons for both riders. Aji showed flashes of pace and race potential once again, while Furusato continued to gain experience in one of the most demanding classes in Grand Prix racing. With a three-week break now before the championship resumes in Jerez, the team will look to reset, regroup and return stronger for the next challenge on European soil.

The Moto2 race was quite a complicated one today, especially because of the red flag and the restart. That made the race shorter and changed the situation for everybody, but even with that, it was not an easy race for our riders. Unfortunately, Mario crashed near the end of the race while fighting for the points, so it was another disappointing result after a difficult weekend.

Taiyo managed to finish the race in P18, but honestly we believe both riders should be able to fight further in front than where we finished today. So, overall, this weekend did not go the way we wanted, and we need to understand clearly where we can improve. We will stay focused, keep working and try to come back stronger at the next race. I also want to thank all our supporters, sponsors and the team staff for their effort and hard work this weekend.

Today was not an easy race, but I think it was still another important experience for me in Moto2. The race was a bit chaotic with the red flag and the restart, so it was not easy to manage everything, but I tried to stay focused, understand the situation and keep pushing until the end. Of course, finishing P18 is not the result we want, especially when the points were not so far away.

At the same time, I feel that every race is helping me understand the category better. I am still learning many things about the bike, the braking, the race rhythm and how to manage all the different situations during a Moto2 weekend. We still have work to do, but I want to keep progressing step by step and use these experiences to come back stronger in Jerez. I’ll keep working hard and try to make another step forward there.

Before the red flag and also after the restart, I think the race was decent, but in the end I made a mistake and that is completely on me. It was an unacceptable mistake and it’s something that cannot happen again. It’s frustrating because after a difficult weekend I still believed we could take something from the race, but unfortunately I couldn’t finish the job.

From the first day, I made things harder for myself and that affected the whole weekend, the rhythm and also the momentum. So now the most important thing is to reset mentally, recover properly and come back with a stronger mindset for Jerez. I want to thank my team for all the work they did during the whole week and I’ll do my best to come back better in the next round.
